THE PATH TO WORK YOU LOVE
Samantha, a Denver-based fiber artist, started crocheting when she was 14-years-old, while riding in the back of a van full of fellow snowboarders on their way to a competition. Nine years later she launched Likewoah Handmade and turned that recreational, on-the-go hobby into a small business. And she hasn't looked back since.
We are thrilled to be featuring Samantha and her charming crocheted work throughout the months of February and March here at OTIS! Swing by our Lafayette cafe to browse her full collection of nature-inspired crochet & macrame items. Additionally, be on the lookout for the upcoming workshops she'll be hosting at OTIS!
CRAFTING BY HAND
Sometimes you just have to try new things and figure it out as you go. Over time, the fiber artist will begin to see in advance whether that simple bundle of yarn is destined to become a cozy wearable or elegant work of art.
When developing new concepts for Likewoah, Samantha appreciates the opportunities to take her work with her. Putting herself in new environments gives her a fresh perspective, often leading to new inspiration. And because many of her explorations of new places tend to lead her outdoors, she has discovered that many of her designs have been inspired by the natural palette of everyday life.
Additionally, Samantha is never afraid to try new things and figure out how to make it work along the way. She says that even though it may not always end in a new pattern or item, getting lost in the flow state has deep creative value.
Last but not least, self-care is vitally important to her as a maker. Eating well, yoga, meditating, and taking time to enjoy life helps her reset creatively and gives her the energy she needs to make.
