POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate coffee professional to join the team at our Lafayette, CO location! The Production Roaster at OTIS is responsible for all aspects of our roasted coffee production and order fulfillment. Working with a natural gas-fired, fully manual 12-kilo Diedrich roaster, you will be responsible for crafting consistently high quality roasts. Meeting customer demand for our coffee while maintaining OTIS’ high quality standards is the key to succeeding in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Roast coffee for production

* Generate a weekly production schedule

* Coffee deliveries to wholesale customers

* Fulfill all online coffee orders

* Maintain all roastery and production equipment

* Weekly coffee cuppings to ensure roasted coffees are to profile standards

* Observe, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of, the policy and procedures manual for the roastery

* Work with our wholesale customers to ensure all their needs are met

* Collaborate closely with all other OTIS team members as needed

* Look for new opportunities and stay up-to-date on new developments in the craft coffee world

* Keep the working area of the roastery safe, clean, and efficient

SPECIFIC DUTIES

* Production coffee roasting to OTIS’ high standards on a Diedrich IR-12

* Roastery workflow, organization, and cleanliness, especially in the handling of green and roasted coffees

* Cupping of production roasts for quality control

* Executing roast batches on a profile system to tight standards

* Staging green coffee into roast batches according to the daily production schedule

* Roastery organization in a highly tidy, efficient manner

* Schedule green coffee deliveries and perform regular inventory audits

* Maintenance and cleaning of all equipment and machinery on a regular schedule

* Receiving of bulk freight, including green coffee shipments and other materials

* Coverage of all coffee bagging production, online order fulfillment, and delivery as required

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

* Must be in love with coffee

* Excellent sensorial skills and intimate knowledge of cupping protocols

* Familiarity with the practice and communication of core craft coffee concepts and theory, such as brewing, tasting, diagnosing, history, and industry developments as well as the equipment and tools involved

* Basic mechanical competency

* Familiarity with Google Drive tool suite and Cropster roasting software

* Effectively manage time to accomplish all required daily tasks 

* Seek continuous process improvements and make decisions based on observed outcomes

* Approachable, thoughtful, and positive

* Superior verbal and written communication skills

* Stellar organization, planning, and time management talents

* Ability to give and receive constructive feedback in any given situation

REQUIREMENTS

* 1+ years of coffee roasting experience with Cropster roasting software

* Standing up to 8 hours per day

* Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist lift up to 150 pounds

* Ability to climb ladders and stairs

* The ability to perceive audible mechanical sound cues

* Demonstrate teamwork and a positive attitude that is both felt & seen by our customers & all members of the OTIS team

* Adept at managing your workload and comfortable with adjusting to evolving work demands

* Ability to problem solve using all available resources
